چکیده
Drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) produce wastewaters with elevated concentrations of heavy metals, metalloids, ammonia, and other contaminants. These require via processes including wastewater stabilization ponds (WSPs). This study assessed the arsenic (As), iron (Fe), ammonia (NH3) in a Saskatchewan DWTP WSP system five sequential ponds. Drone imaging combined flow depth data was used to estimate retention times which increased from 7-9 8-10 days after upgrade. Concentration trends showed Fe decreased Pond 1 3 Ponds 5, while As 5. Average effluent 10.6 µg/L were over 5.0 guideline, both NH3 guidelines easily met post-upgrade 2020. Several actions are recommended ensure adequate operation dredging, aeration, installing macrophytes capable uptake.

Nitrogen N , phosphorus P , and carbon C flux through a three pond wastewater stabilization system WWSP was measured over the course of a year in a cold weather region Minnesota with 4 months of ice cover. The system was surprisingly efficient at N removal averaging 80% primarily through volatilization of un-ionized ammonia during the late spring when the pH was above 8 and ammonia levels were ...
متن کاملArsenic removal from water/wastewater using adsorbents--A critical review.
Arsenic's history in science, medicine and technology has been overshadowed by its notoriety as a poison in homicides. Arsenic is viewed as being synonymous with toxicity. Dangerous arsenic concentrations in natural waters is now a worldwide problem and often referred to as a 20th-21st century calamity. High arsenic concentrations have been reported recently from the USA, China, Chile, Banglade...

High concentrations of nitrogen compounds, such as ammonia observed in the petrochemical industry, are the major environmental pollutants. Therefore, effective and inexpensive methods are needed for its treatment. Biological treatment of various pollutants is a low cost and biocompatible replacement for current physico-chemical systems. The use of aquatic plants is an effective way to absorb th...
